Will My SSI Benefits Be Reduced If I Get Food Stamps?

Will My SSI Payments Change If I Receive Food Stamps?

Generally, No. The federal food stamp program was created to help low-income people by giving them additional money so they can feed themselves and their family. So receiving SNAP benefits won't affect the amount of your monthly SSI benefits.

Please note that until recently, California was the only state that did not allow people receiving SSI to get food stamps. This is because the state of California paid SSI recipients extra money on top of their monthly SSI federal benefit. This extra money was to assist recipients with food.
